{"id":62,"date":"2011-06-01T15:07:02","date_gmt":"2011-06-01T15:07:02","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/greg.lyonkingdom.com\/?p=62"},"modified":"2011-06-15T10:29:51","modified_gmt":"2011-06-15T10:29:51","slug":"turning-off-google-chromes-instant","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/greg.lyonkingdom.com\/?p=62","title":{"rendered":"Turning off Google Chrome&#8217;s &#8216;Instant&#8217;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I like to use Google Chrome for my day-to-day browsing and for basic testing of web-sites.\u00a0 For more advanced work Chrome can be pretty annoying (but that is a topic for a different post).\u00a0 In one of it&#8217;s recent updates, Chrome has added the feature called <em>Instant.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Oh how I hate it.\u00a0 If you&#8217;re not already familiar, Chrome&#8217;s &#8216;Instant&#8217; is the relatively recent feature that starts searching or navigating as soon as you start typing.\u00a0 OK, it&#8217;s not <em>so<\/em> bad when searching, but really, getting 10 or 20 404 errors while typing out a URL gets pretty annoying, and it&#8217;s even worse if the site tries to redirect on 404.<\/p>\n<p>It turns out that it is very easy to turn off this feature, just go to settings (Click the little wrench icon), then Options.\u00a0 On the &#8216;Basics&#8217; screen you can simply uncheck the <strong>Enable Instant for faster searching and browsing <\/strong>checkbox.\u00a0 Of course, you&#8217;ll lose &#8216;instant&#8217; for both urls and for searching.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I like to use Google Chrome for my day-to-day browsing and for basic testing of web-sites.\u00a0 For more advanced work Chrome can be pretty annoying (but that is a topic for a different post).\u00a0 In one of it&#8217;s recent updates, Chrome has added the feature called Instant.
