{"id":1,"date":"2011-05-27T00:05:51","date_gmt":"2011-05-27T00:05:51","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/greg.lyonkingdom.com\/?p=1"},"modified":"2011-05-27T05:13:57","modified_gmt":"2011-05-27T05:13:57","slug":"hello-world","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/greg.lyonkingdom.com\/?p=1","title":{"rendered":"The Accident: Thursday February 24th"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"attachment_19\" style=\"width: 310px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"http:\/\/greg.lyonkingdom.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/05\/IMG_8388.jpg\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-19\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-19\" title=\"IMG_8388\" src=\"http:\/\/greg.lyonkingdom.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/05\/IMG_8388-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"White Wolf Terrain park\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"https:\/\/greg.lyonkingdom.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/05\/IMG_8388-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/greg.lyonkingdom.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/05\/IMG_8388-1024x768.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-19\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">White Wolf Terrain Park<\/p><\/div>\n<p>I was on a 3 day ski trip to Lutsen, MN with a bunch of co-workers and friends.\u00a0 On the 2<sup>nd<\/sup> ski day of the trip, my boss broke his wrist on the terrain park when he launched off a very icy angled jump (the last feature in the park), on what would have been one of our last runs of the day anyway.\u00a0 He got a ride down on a snowmobile and we finished out our ski day, which mostly consisted of working our way all the way back across Moose Mountain toward the main Chalet area.\u00a0 We got beers and watched the surprisingly heavy snowfall and waited \u2018til he came back from emergency in a brace.\u00a0 His x-rays showed that he at least had a clean break.<\/p>\n<p>On the last ski day only Chuck and I decided to go skiing.\u00a0 Everyone else was skied out or (possibly) hung over.\u00a0 We were interested in seeing how much snow had accumulated overnight in some of the trees!\u00a0 We worked our way over to the terrain park on Moose Mountain (again) and started doing laps.\u00a0 We\u2019d start out on the run; Chuck was taking the big table-tops and I was either taking them (much slower) or videoing him going over.\u00a0 Then we\u2019d dodge into a tree run (coyote) to skiers left.\u00a0 It was fairly open in most places, big hard icy moguls under about 6\u201d of nice new snow.\u00a0 It was just enough to make it fun.\u00a0 We were hitting a few natural features, including a fallen tree that made a small drop-off jump.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_20\" style=\"width: 235px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"http:\/\/greg.lyonkingdom.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/05\/IMG_8389.jpg\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-20\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-20\" title=\"IMG_8389\" src=\"http:\/\/greg.lyonkingdom.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/05\/IMG_8389-225x300.jpg\" alt=\"Me after the fall\" width=\"225\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/greg.lyonkingdom.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/05\/IMG_8389-225x300.jpg 225w, https:\/\/greg.lyonkingdom.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/05\/IMG_8389-768x1024.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 225px) 100vw, 225px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-20\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Me with a bad knee<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Well, on about our 6<sup>th<\/sup> lap through there I did something wrong.\u00a0 Chuck was videotaping me as I skied the top 1\/3 of it.\u00a0 When I got to the little drop off jump I recall thinking to myself \u201cI should go around that, I don\u2019t even like it that much\u201d but I hit it anyway.\u00a0 Somehow, when I landed my left knee hyper-extended backwards; I think I must have hit the back side of a mogul on landing.\u00a0 I was still moving down the hill thinking \u201cOH MY GOD MY KNEE IS GOING BACKWARDS\u201d. At the same time I also felt an ominous \u2018pop\u2019 and a crunchy\/excruciating pain.\u00a0 As I fell my knee \u2018popped\u2019 back in but my bindings still didn\u2019t release and I ended up in a very awkward position on the ground, skis pointed uphill.<\/p>\n<p>Chuck was recording the whole time, but as I got a ways past him he started boarding down behind me and didn\u2019t have the camera on me for the actual accident.\u00a0 The audio is intact though and you can hear me cursing and yelling for help.\u00a0 He had his music turned up loud and didn\u2019t realize for several seconds that I was hurt\u2026he was razzing me when he suddenly realized something wasn\u2019t right.\u00a0 Then he stuffed the camera in his pocket and rushed in to help me out of my skis.<\/p>\n<p>The pain was awful but it was also short lived.\u00a0 After 2 minutes it was clearly abating\u2026After 3 minutes I carefully changed positions.\u00a0 At about 5 minutes I started to kid myself that maybe I was OK\u2026I gingerly stood up using poles and left leg, then tried to apply a bit of weight to my hurt knee, BAD IDEA\u2026OUCH!\u00a0 Instantly sick to my stomach and thought it was going to hyper-extend again.\u00a0 That\u2019s when I knew my ski day (if not season) was at an end.\u00a0 Chuck went down and got two Ski patrols to come.\u00a0 They had to leave the snowmobile and sled out on the main run and bush-whack to me in the trees.\u00a0 They checked me out, splinted the bad leg, got me into one ski and one on each side, post-holing the whole way, slid me out to the main run.\u00a0 Then they strapped me in to the sled, Chuck hopped on the back of the snowmobile and the ski patrol drove us up to the patrol hut.\u00a0 I was glad to have my helmet and goggles on;
